Cherwell Pubwatch - Banbury & Bicester/Kidlington
What We Do
Cherwell Pubwatch is an early warning system designed to prevent trouble-makers and offenders from entering licensed premises.
Using a secure website, members can share information and photographs of undesirables and trouble-makers.
Members can report incidents that happen in their own premises and also view details of incidents/images of offenders nominated by other premises using DISC – a simple programme which can be downloaded as an app on smart phones or any form of technology that has internet access.
Pubwatch began in 2009 and the scheme is reviewed every two years as part of the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships’ (NABCP) accreditation process which assures best practice and full compliance with current Data Protection and GDPR protocols.
Information Sharing Agreements are also in place with Thames Valley Police and can be reviewed at www.thamesvalley.police.uk
By providing the tools needed to help prevent crime and antisocial behaviour, Cherwell Pubwatch is serving not only individual businesses but the whole community.
Partnership members share information in real time, enabling staff to take positive action to protect businesses, customers and staff.
The direct link to other businesses in the community means members are informed and made aware of offenders and other vital information quickly and clearly.
Pubwatch is a not-for-profit scheme and membership subscriptions support the administration of the scheme.
When businesses join, a co-ordinator will visit and go through the scheme to ensure that all terms and conditions of membership are explained along with responsibilities regarding data protection/GDPR.
New members then sign the membership agreement and the authorisation form that enables their staff to have access to the DISC system. This process is completed each time a business appoints new management.
Committees
Each scheme has a committee, which includes a Chair, Vice Chair, Treasurer and members to ensure the smooth running of these meetings.
Every licensee who is part of the scheme is welcome to join the committee or attend the meetings.
Each committee meets regularly and locally and here is where all incident reports are discussed and agreement on any bans they wish to enforce. Other organisations participating in the schemes include Cherwell District Council, Thames Valley Police and local initiatives.
